Overview

Concord Consult Limited was appointed to provide Quantity Surveying and MEP Compliance services for the delivery of a new steam shed and associated external infrastructure works at Calor Gas’s operational facility in Saxham, Bury St Edmunds.

The project involved the construction of a purpose-built industrial steam shed, together with significant civil engineering, structural steelwork, mechanical and electrical infrastructure, utility diversions and external works within a live gas production facility. Our integrated commercial and technical role ensured both financial certainty and compliance with the client’s operational, engineering and quality requirements throughout design and construction.

Scope of Works

The development comprised the delivery of a new operational steam facility and associated infrastructure, including:

• Demolition of existing buildings, foundations and redundant infrastructure.
• Construction of reinforced concrete foundations, heavy-duty external slabs and operational service platforms.
• Structural steel frame erection with insulated roof and wall cladding systems.
• Installation of roller shutter doors, personnel access doors and associated building envelope works.
• Surface water drainage, foul drainage and cellular soakaway systems.
• New concrete hardstanding, gravel compounds and external yard infrastructure.
• Electrical infrastructure upgrades and utility diversions.
• Mechanical services integration and modifications to existing process pipework.
• Diversion and reconfiguration of overhead service gantries and operational utilities.

Challenges

Delivering a new industrial steam facility within an operational gas production site required close coordination between civil, structural and MEP disciplines while maintaining uninterrupted operations.
